The Niulanshan Zodiac Ox Edition, a creation by renowned designer Tiger Pan, is a testament to the power of innovative design. Inspired by the Chinese Zodiac, this design breaks away from the traditional realism often associated with zodiac-inspired designs. Instead, it embraces a modern, abstract approach that resonates with the younger generation of consumers.
The design's unique properties lie in its abstract representation of the Ox, a symbol of strength and determination in Chinese culture. The bottle's blade-sliced straight lines convey the tough carcass and uncompromising spirit of an Ox. The brand design, stripped down to the essential calligraphy font "Niu" (Ox), extends the last stroke to imply the Chinese slang for 'awesome' till the end, symbolizing a relentless pursuit of goals.
The Niulanshan Zodiac Ox Edition is not just a visual delight but also a marvel of manufacturing. The bottle is crafted from glass, while the box is made of wood. The design specifications include a bottle size of 92.5*393mm and a box size of 182*435*128mm. The production cost is estimated at 10USD, with a retail price of 150USD.
The design process, which started in April 2020 in Beijing and concluded in August 2020 in Shenzhen, was not without its challenges. The team had to balance the brand's desire to break away from past realism used in Zodiac limited editions while still appealing to the brand's traditional consumer base. The result is a design that not only carries weight for the brand but also resonates with younger consumers.
Winning the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2021, the Niulanshan Zodiac Ox Edition is a testament to the power of innovative design. As Tiger Pan's creation, it showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
As we celebrate the Year of the Ox, the Niulanshan Zodiac Ox Edition serves as a reminder of the enduring power of design to transform everyday objects into works of art. It is a testament to the power of innovation and the limitless possibilities of design.
